Staff Spotlight

Dr. Kiono L. Barnes, DMD

Since the opening of The Clinic in 2011, Dr. Barnes has been coming to The Clinic every other Thursday morning to extract teeth. In the past two years alone, he has treated more than 213 patients! The extractions have been as low as one/patient to as high as 14/patient!

At this time, we are only able to handle critical care, basically teeth extractions. A patient comes to The Clinic with a complaint of a toothache. The patient is triaged by the nursing staff and examined by a physician or nurse practicianer. Typically, the toothache is a result of an infection. The patient is given a prescription for an antibiotic to treat the infection. If the patient and the doctor agree that it is in the patient’s best interest, the patient’s name is put on a waiting list for a dental extraction. At the present time, we have 98 patients on the dental waiting list! Dr. Barnes treats dental patients at The Clinic. We have 8 other dentists in the community who also give us probono appointments for dental extractions in their offices.

When asked why he volunteers so much of his time and talent, Dr. Barnes said: “I feel like God gave me a gift and I should use it to help people.”

Well, Dr. Barnes really is using his gift and we are all so blessed and fortunate that he is!
